NO PICTURES, BUT REALLY GOOD SAILING...

Yesterday we had a pretty good day sailing at Hookipa... it was still pretty good swell, although it was a bit messy in the end, but it was so much fun. I missed this place a lot, sailing with everyone, getting killed in front of the rocks, swimming a lot, etc... honestly, I got killed a thousand times! but it was fun. No pictures, sorry, useless with the camera at the moment! and, for those who ask about my new look, dont get too excited, i think it looks exactly the same, it is just that i freak out everytime I cut it a bit... ;-)) Tonight is Halloween, and here in Maui it is a bit crazy... i dont even have an outfit yet!!! whatever, it is none of my priorities at the moment to be honest....

Hello everyone!!!
today the trade winds have started. the swell was pretty big, and messy because the wind was a bit on shore, so when i passed by Hookipa didnt look very nice. so in the end I went out at Kanaha with Nagoshiiiiiiiiiiiiii. It was cool, a bit on shore but it meant it was good for some jumping aswell.... spent all day in the water, it felt great!!!! so now i am drinking one of those chocolate Powerbar recovery drinks that are super tasty, to be full power for tomorrow... but actually, the highlight of my day was that i went to the hairdresser!!! finally!!! I am more scare of going to the hairdresser than to the dentist!!! so it is a big thing for me. I still haven't dare to look in the mirror, I will give it a couple of days and then face the truth! ;-))

Los excelentes resultados de las hermanas Daida e Iballa Ruano y Nayra Alonso en el mundial de windsurf han llevado a Volkswagen Comerciales a ocupar los 3 puestos del podio mundial en la modalidad de olas. Las 3 windsurfistas canarias están patrocinadas desde hace años por la marca y forman, junto a Bjorn Dunkerbeck, el Volkswagen Canarias Windsurf Team.

Volkswagen Comerciales ha felicitado personalmente a las 3 windsurfistas canarias por este nuevo éxito en su carrera deportiva. Oliver Alonso, Director General de Domingo Alonso, y Daniel Guillén, Gerente de Volkswagen Comerciales, felicitaron a las deportistas, que han llevado la marca y el deporte canario a lo más alto.

El podio final del Campeonato del Mundo de Olas finalizó con estos resultados:
1º. Daida Ruano
2º. Iballa Ruano
3º. Nayra Alonso

Las hermanas Daida e Iballa Ruano vuelven a ser Campeonas del Mundo. Con este nuevo puesto en el podio, las dos jóvenes se reparten más de 18 títulos mundiales, varios subtítulos y otros muchos terceros puestos en el ranking mundial en su larga trayectoria deportiva.

Por su parte, Nayra Alonso alcanzó el 3º puesto en el podio mundial, que supone un excelente resultado teniendo en cuenta que, este año, la windsurfista grancanaria estuvo varios meses fuera de la competición debido a una lesión en el pie derecho.

Con estos exitosos resultados, Volkswagen Comerciales se sitúa en la primera posición en el windsurf mundial y se consolida como marca número uno para los windsurfistas, gracias a la Volkswagen Transporter, el vehículo más utilizado entre los windsurfistas canarios porque está totalmente preparada para las exigencias y desafíos tanto del ocio como de la vida profesional.

BACK IN MAUI, IT IS SOOOO NICE...

I arrived last night to Maui, after quite a few hours flying!... It feels sooooo nice.... I love this place: the smell, the peace, the ocean, the views, everything! it makes me feel really good. plus we are staying in an amazing place this time, in Tatiana's mum place, which is super nice (will put some pics soon...).
We didnt expected any wind at all today, but for some reason, it got a bit windy and with some swell, and we could get out and sail a bit just to get the blood pumping a bit and loose the body from the hours sitting on the plane, it made me really good!!! the water was so warm... i love it. I hadnt been here in a year as i couldnt come in spring because of the foot, so I really missed it!
Plus there was a lot of friends on the water and out of it, and it was so good to see them again!!!!
I forgot the camera, so i cant put any pics up, but i will take some shots soon....

IN UK, RECOVERING BEFORE HEADING OFF TO MAAAAAAAAAUI...

I arrived here in UK last night. I am feeling much better already, but still had a bit of a painful trip, with a bit of temperature and my ears about to explode!!!! but now I have a couple of day to rest quietly here in the UK. here is where i actually rest well, because it is so cold outside that i am really happy staying in doing nothing!!! hopefully i will be 100% by the time we leave and i can jump on the water straight away when i arrive in Maaaaaaaaui.......! cant wait! I havent been there in a year as i couldnt go in spring because of my foot, so i am really looking forward to be there!

no interesting pictures to post here, so this is it for the moment!!!

Normally I always get ill or in Sylt or right after it. but this year, i didnt have time then as conditions here in GC were pretty good or for surfing or for windsrufing.... soooooo, now that the last weekend finally there was nothing that really worth it, I decided to rest and do nothing, and this was the green light for my body to get his yearlly autum holidays and be all day in bed. today is my second day in bed, but i really need to speed up this recovery, as i am off to Maui very soon!!!!

WOMEN AND SPORT CONGRESS

Today I participated in a congress about Women and Sport. it got me by surprise as i didnt even know i had to attend!!!! but anyways.. it was really good and I had the honor to be sitting next to many other women that have been at the Olympics and won several medals. very very impressive!!!! we had to talk about women in the elite competition, and two principal question is what we talked about: positive and negative experiences in your career as a women and why women retire earlier from elite competition. The result was pretty clear, the most negative experience from all of us was that sometimes we are discriminated from men in different ways and our medals and triumphs never get as much attention as when men get them. Hopefully this will change in the future and we will see a more equal society.
Daida and Iballa participated yesterday, but went also today, so after we went for a nice lunch after.
PS: i know, i look pretty dead in the pic, but i have been so tired lately! it was soooo nice to have a little break today!!! ;-)))

FULL DAY/VERY FUN DAY/VERY FULL MOON!!!!

Today the wind was coming back, but still we had time to squeeze an early surf with no wind. it was pretty small, but we only were Paloma and myself, so pretty cool and fun.
Then, after lunch, the wind was already good, and I headed down to Vargas where I met the "Mexico conection" girls. Gaby and Maribel are friends from a friend and I will be helping them out to sail here and teaching them a bit. It was light wind and pretty fun freestyle. And check out the moon we had when we came in!!!! HUGE! so nice, big and beautiful!!!....

This pic is a pic from yesterday. It was pretty good.....4,2 and side shore, with head high most of the time, and a bit more in the bigger ones....so glassy on the wave.... the wave had a few sections and it was super fun. not many people out...so pretty nice, i was out for aaaaages..... now, we wont have wind for a couple of days i think, what really good too. I think I missed quite a good surf today...oh well... you cant be everywhere all the time...tomorrow will be another day....

IS IT OCTOBER??? I WAS ON 3,3 OVERPOWER!!!!

My God!!! is this October??? I went sailing today and it was 3,3 weather and i was fully overpowered!!!!! crazy!!!! was good, mainly because it is really good to be back home sailing with your mates, in the WARMMMMMMMMMM (I was on shorts! and wetsuit top only!!). It was pretty good, like head high waves, side-off..... but way too strong man!!!

HELL OF OF A TRIP COMING BACK TO UK

I am DEAD....so tired... it all started on Sunday. we woke up at 5:45 for the skippers meeting. after a couple of hours under the rain and in the wetsuit, we finally didnt compete. we did the ceremony and then we had to derig all the gear and pack up and load it in the truck that would take it to the airport. after, pack up at the apartment. a lot of people was staying in Sytl that night to celebrate: Kauli, Antxon, Mevisen, some of the PWA crew, myself, and many more. so we went out, and we had a pretty good party. i only could sleep for a couple of hours before i had to jump in the train to get to the airport. i had about four train changes and i was carrying my back-pack, my big clothes bag, and another bag with the trophy and other stuff. Arrived at the airpot at about 20:00, pretty exhausted alrady, but we checked in and waited to board. we were on the plane at about 23:00, ready to go, but we had to leave the plane due to technical problems. so we got stuck at the airport for a couple of hours, until the engineer came an checked the plane. we got back on the plane by 01:30. we arrived at UK around 02:30 and i thought i was going to pass out already I was so tired! we took the boardbags and by the time we arrived at John's place, it was about 5:00 in the morning!!! again, we had to wake up early to say hello to the family, and now i am just dying!!! but that is not all. tomorrow, i go back home to GC and i have to wake up again at 6:00!!!!!!! cant wait to be back home (by the way, the forecast looks sick!!!!!)

I am soooo happy!!!! i did equal 3rd in Sylt and with it 3rd overall for the year in waves!!! so stocked!!!!

i had such a big problem in my first heat when my board unplugged from my sail, i was swimming for like 3 minutes and even was calling the rescue already, but i dont know how i managed to try one last time and plug it back together and made it through....

I am soooo happy!!!

STILL WAITING HERE IN SYLT

It has been a long week of waiting around in Sylt. We had some sick conditions predicted, but everyday it changes a little and in the end it is never good enough to run the waves. they could do nearly the first round of the men, but now we are back to really light winds, not even good for slalom. still there is a chance in the next couple of days, but you never know.... well.. we keep waiting in the cold!
