FREESTYLE, SUNSET AND JAWS...

Yesterday I went with Junko to the other side, to Kihei, to do some freestyle. It has been wavy all the time so i havent done pretty much any freestyle. And it was pretty fun! Junko is kicking my arse on freestyle, but I like sailing with her. and.. I did 2 Flakas,... yeah! i Know it is not very impressive but to me it is.... so i was pretty stocked. When I arrived home, this was the sunset we had, beautiful!!! and this morning we went down to see Jaws. it was breaking but it was not as good or as big as we expected. but it is always impressive anyways.... and it was a pretty nice walk down...

Man I could not get on the water today. I am so tired!!!!!!!! the wind has been very off shore all the time and gusty, what means it is really hard to sail around. your body gets punished!!!! but it has been pretty good fun! Here some pictures from Marcelo Fernandez. He has been taking some shots from the cliff and let me put them up. He has a "Hookipa JOurnal": http://web.me.com/marcelowave/Hookipa/Welcome.html

WINDY WINDY... AGAIN...

I have never been in Maui before with so much strong wind so many days in a row. As predicted, the wind was back on sunday, and some wave as well today. I am a bit... I dont know, happy but not happy. i am not feeling very well on the water... i am not "flowing" very well for my liking, but it is always a phase in the learning process I guess... and I hope!!!!! I t has been fun though... at times, because some times, with so many people on the water you get a bit frustrated!!!! oh well.... apparently a MASSIVE SWELL is coming in a few days...a proper one for Jaws to work... time to sit down and watch then!

here, some clips from some video.. sorry they are so small, but as they are taken from the video, the quality is really poor. still better than nothing...
those Aerials, only one landed well, the rest... so so... on top of the wave... but getting better about landing them forward and not going flying over the back of the wave....so a bit better....

FIRST NIGHT OUT

The forecast was bad for wind for today saturday, so a lot of people went out to Jacks on friday night. it has been so windy or good waves for surfing, so pretty much noone had any energy left to go out at all, in the end you realize you just go to the beach and back home and to bed. so it was really nice to socialize a bit. it was fun, and today it was the prefect day to chill: rainy and grey. the surf was good, but i really needed one day of no exercise.

ANOTHER WINDY DAY.

today it was windy again, but today was already sunny after some stormy days. I sailed a lot, but i didnt have the best session. it was difficult as the wind was a bit on shore and the swell very east, so i dont know, it was a bit weird and i was not doing very good. oh well... no worries, tomorrow will be another day.
here you have some clips from a couple of days ago from a few clips John filmed me with Swifty's camera, so thanks to both.

FUNKY WIND AND BIG SWELL

Today the wind was back (actually from yesterday, that i went freestyling to Kihei, but it was such a mess of a day that I better forget about it), but it was a bit northerly, what means that the north shore was a bit onshore. Even though windguru was not calling for a big swell, it kind of was big. Solid mast high, proper one. how different everything is once the waves pass a certain high: no more going for it with no fear for me. i was playing pretty safe actually, but in my defense i have to say that i went down some of the proper big ones. But it wasn't pretty. I mean, it was kind of messy, and there was a lot, a lot of current. if you took the nice wave, it was super good, smooth and open face, but the good ones were difficult to find. (But once again, all this in my personal point of view). Levi was amazing.... like Stefan said, he was sailing it like if it was a perfect wave like Ponta Preta... once again, impressive, very impressive.

MORE OF THE SAME...

Well, today, more of the same: windy, very windy but soooooo gusty and off shore that i think my arms are a couple of centimetres longer now... but still some waves, some sets came and it was pretty fun in the end.. seems like the wind is going to give us a little break...

WINDY, WINDY, WINDY....

Thanks God i brought my 3,7 to Maui. yes, 3,7 is what I have been sailing on all this week, no joke (and it is not that i am a girl, Keith has been on 4,2, Camille Juba on 4,0 and the rest of the guys 4,5 or something like that... so it is not that i am such light weight :-). Well, the thing is that it has been pretty strong, pretty off shore and super gusty also, so it has been really hard to sail. You know how it is when you are just fighting all the time... plus if you add to the equation that I have been getting punished and killed all the time, you can imagine how my body is at the moment!!! but good feeling.

I love being here and watching all the guys out ripping. Man, they are so good!!!!! John (Skyeboy) has been ripping on his photoshoot with RRD and the locals here are just amazing: Keith Teboul, Robby Naish, Kai Katchadourian, Francisco Porcelli, Kevin, Matt... and Camille Juban, he is sailing soooooo good!!! It is so good to just sit and watch!!!

here you have some pics that Kevin Pritchard has been taking from the cliff... I hope you like them!

MAUI.........

HI all,
Maui is still windy windy.... very windy actually....the last couple of days it was actually really hard to sail because it was super windy and very off shore, what it made it really difficult.. at least for me... but it seems like we will have a break in a couple of days, as the wind will switch off for a bit....
here is a picture that Kevin Pritchard took a couple of days ago... I hope you like it....

GOODS AND BADS....

It has been pretty good here in Maui. There is a good swell around and it is pretty windy (very windy actually), yesterday thursday was a pretty good day for me. I could sail a lot and even though I got killed many time and had to swim a lot, it was worth it. So i had pretty high expectations for today as the forecast was also good. When i got to the beach it looked super windy, but very gusty and offshore. I went out and got killed, in half an hour i got only about four waves and crashed in three of them. In one of the crashes I landed on my gear and hurt my shin big time! so i came in and called it a day. You know how it works, when you expect a lot, it is never good for you and when you dont, it is sick...
ah! I forgot!!! yesterday I saw a shark, well, I did and a lot of other people too. The one I saw was not too big, but the other people said the one they saw was pretty big (and going towards Kai Katchadourian), maybe it was mum and baby??... pretty scary, but hey, they are always there, even when we dont see them....

these are just a couple of frames from a tiny video from today... just before I hurt like an idiot... we´ll see tomorrow,....

LOVING MY FANATIC NW TE 72 TWINFIN, HONESTLY!!!

I have been sailing with my new NW TE TwinFin. it is the 72 litres, what normally it would be a bit of a too big board for me, but it has been really good at Hookipa. well, sometimes I f*cked up a bit as i wasnt used to the board, but when the wave was clean, smooth and vertical... it was pretty sic.... loved it....honestly. at some point it got really windy and i should have changed actually, but at the end of the day, when the wind died a bit and it got glassier, it was sooooo good..... man, I sailed forever and ever!!! i am dead today...
